While many fans are eager to see the Southeastern Conference move to a nine-game annual conference slate, the league does not appear close to making such a move in the near future.

Based on the current scheduling format, even if the SEC decided to move to a nine-game league schedule format, like the Pac-12 and Big Ten, the league could not do so until the 2023-24 season due to current scheduling and broadcast deals that are already in place.

However, if the league does eventually decide to go to a nine-game schedule, something Nick Saban and Gus Malzahn have both publicly supported in the past, Dan Mullen offered up an interesting twist during his appearance at the latest SEC spring meetings from Destin.

The Florida coach would like to see each league team have four home games and four away games and one neutral site game. That would keep the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party intact for the Gators and Georgia, while at the same time, opens the possibility for some more interesting games across the league in neutral site locations.

Check out the response to Mullen comment from Mark Harlan, who currently serves as the AD at Utah:

Harlan didn’t even try to temper his shade there.
