Transfer confirmed: Former 5-star RB Demarkcus Bowman has arrived in Gainesville
It’s official, Demarkcus Bowman has landed in Gainesville.
Gators fans can stop holding their collective breath as the talented Clemson transfer from Lakeland, Fla., has finally made his way to Gainesville.
Bowman made the decision to transfer from Clemson to Florida back in October but there was some speculation regarding his status with Dan Mullen’s program until the moment he arrived on campus. Bowman moved into his new home in Gainesville this weekend and is expected to begin classes at Florida on Monday, according to Blake Alderman of 247Sports.
The former touted recruit from Lakeland High School was rated as the nation’s No. 3 running back and the No. 20 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings. Bowman signed with Clemson over Florida and Alabama.
During his short time with Clemson, Bowman rushed just nine times for 32 yards.
With the Gators struggling to rush the ball at times last season, Dameon Pierce led the team with just 503 total rushing yards and backup quarterback Emory Jones finished third on the team in rushing with 217 yards on the ground, Mullen’s offense could certainly use a boost that Bowman projects to give them on the field in 2021.
Speaking of Mullen, he was busy welcoming the new Gators to Gainesville on Saturday:

He might be a big catch. I wonder if Mullen will be there to coach him. I figure he probably will, but I am betting the administration has him on a short leash.
In Mullen’s pre-game appearance on the SEC channel’s show…he looked sharp, nice clothing and was almost eloquent in his speech. Image-repairing for sure.
Go Gators
Gonna be a nasty backfield next year. We will be back to 50/50 running and pass offense if we can get some return from that o-line.
Looks like Fla won’t be as bad as all the UGA haters seem to hope they will be. If they land the tight end from LSU that all the UGA fan’s thought we would get not looking so bad in Gainsville next season.
That mixture of run/pass is what wins championships along with a stout defense.
Great addition. We need the oline to step up and start taking some pride in run blocking.
This is arguably the best and most highly rated running back recruit we have seen in 10+ years.
That’s really good news. However, I really like Nayquan. He’s really good.
Lingard is also in the mix. It’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out.
A great three man rotation of Pierce, Wright and Bowman. Plus now you have to account for Jones. They all bring something different to the table. Pierce is hard runner, Wright is patient and slippery and Bowman is a home-run hitter. I’m not sure Lingard is gonna work out and I hope Davis goes to the NFL. It is gonna be a log jam back there if not. I really hope they give this guy Bowman a chance to be the guy. I love Wright and Pierce but this guy Bowman is a game changer and can get six whenever he touches it. If that is the case I would want him to get the lions share.
I thought i read on another article that Lingaurd was changing positions.
Would be his best bet unless he wants to transfer again.
What is Lingaurd’s deal? He was a highly coveted five star recruit.why can’t he get on the field?
He blew out his knee and did not have the same burst after the recovery. Same for Malik Davis. Malik Davis was a homerun hitter as a freshmen but then the knee went and he was never the same.
I enjoyed the passing offense this past year with Kyle Trask, but I am looking forward to seeing Florida (under Mullen) running some form of spread with 2 true dual threat QBs, having added two 5star RBs, and seeing O-line projects like Ethan White and Josh Braun opening holes.
I know modern football revolves around the passing game, but as an old-school fan, I would feel better with “our feet planted on the ground”-game.
Being able to chew up clock when you need to is beneficial to the defense. Games like the SEC championship, where UF went down the field in 3-4 plays in under 2 minutes to put the defense back out there-you have to be able to give them a breather.
Longtime77, i agree with that take but this years Gator defense did their own version of how to rest. They would just let the other team score in as few plays as possible and then they could take a break on the sideline. Seems to have worked out fine for them.
Yes the defense was frustrating this year. And I’m not saying running the ball is the only answer, but it should help.
I was half hoping UF would end up with Derek Mason but Auburn got him. At Vandy, his players might have lost battles due to competing against superior athletes or due to depth, but they were schematically sound and lined up correctly pre-snap. That’s something that was sorely missing this season for the Gators and did not improve over the year.
As much as memory has shined on Spurriers time at UF, this is very similar. You won’t be able to out score everyone, your offense will come due to have an off day- hence, no undefeated seasons under Spurrier. And he didn’t win a title until he committed to defense and hired the previous seasons best DC in the NCAAF. Bob Stoops.
Dan may have come to that crossroad.
We long for the days of Eric Rhett, who would take the ball and run over linebackers, corners and safeties like they were ghosts. We need a “pounder” that can pick up 2-3 yards like clockwork.
Spurrier always had a good OL too. I don’t care who’s carrying the rock, they won’t get far if there’s no hole to run through. Pierce is a bruising back, as well as Nayquan Wright. Bowman will get thru that first level and be gone. I think Malik Davis and Lingard just aren’t the same after the knee injury.
