Legendary NFL head coach Don Shula has passed away
Sad news to share from the NFL as legendary Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula has passed away. He was 90 years old.
Shula will forever be known as the only head coach to lead an NFL team to a perfect season as the 1972 Miami Dolphins went 17-0 and won Super Bowl VII. The Dolphins won the next Super Bowl title, too, after going 12-2 in the regular season.
Shula is also the winningest coach in NFL history with 347 career wins in the league.
Incredibly, Shula served as coach of the Dolphins from 1970 until 1995.
Shula’s son, Mike, served as head coach of Alabama from 2003-2006 and currently serves as Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach.
The Dolphins issued the following comment confirming the news of Shula’s passing.

Sad news, to be certain, but why the Gator logo next to this article?
Not sure why. I wish they would stop it. A few weeks ago they published an article on the Titans and tagged it with an orange UT tile. Zero relation. Many UT fans, like me, don’t care about the Titans. In fact, I actively root against them.
They have been matching the pro & SEC teams by their state. It doesn’t make sense but much of this site doesn’t. At least they didn’t list his Super Bowl wins. 2 other sites said he won 2 SBs while he actually won 3 & lost 2.
Sounds like they need an NFL logo.
Maybe the NFL HC GOAT. Belichek has more Super Bowls but he never went undefeated, which is incredibly difficult given the relative parity in the NFL.
RIP Mr. Shula. Such a big part in the story of NFL’s history!
What a Great Coach in Miami and prior to that with the Colts in Baltimore. He was a good businessman too…had some Steakhouses in Florida. What a Legacy.
He put together some great teams down in Miami. I’m not much of an NFL fan, but I did watch Czonka every chance I got.
RIP Coach, prayers to the family.
He had a very good life and lived to a ripe old 90. I always admired him – never heard ONE SINGLE NEGATIVE thing about him – must have been a great man to be associated with! I hope he went peacefully surrounded by his family. RIP Coach Shula!
