It was only a matter of time until the decision to part ways with coach Jim McElwain started to impact the Florida Gators’ recruiting classes.

On Wednesday night, 4-star 2018 WR Ja’Marr Chase de-committed from Florida, bringing the Gators’ 2018 class down to 18 members.

Chase, a Louisiana native, has been recruited by other schools and decided to announce his de-commitment from Florida on Twitter on Wednesday night:

According to the 247Sports composite, Chase is the No. 12 wide receiver in the class of 2018 and the No. 4 overall recruit from the state of Florida.

Florida now has the No. 10 class in the country and the No. 2 class in the SEC, per 247Sports.

Chase is the first big name to de-commit from the Gators, but it’ll be interesting to see if others follow suit in the coming weeks. Every week the Gators don’t have a new coach in place, they will risk having their highly rated 2018 class fall apart.
