Five quarterbacks are expected to be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Kyle Trask, meanwhile, is seen as QB6 – the top option for teams potentially looking to take a quarterback after Round 1.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that the New Orleans Saints see Trask as a potential long-term QB for the franchise after Drew Brees’ retirement. The Saints would likely turn to Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill at quarterback for the 2021 campaign with Trask taking over in a future season, per Fowler. Now, an ESPN draft analyst says the Patriots have a similar view of the Heisman finalist as potentially the post-Tom Brady long-term solution.

“Cam Newton is fine for right now, but that is a band-aid,” Matt Miller said on “Get Up” on ESPN on Friday. “They need a long-term solution at the quarterback position. Kyle Trask from Florida, while not a first-rounder, is accurate, he has good enough arm strength, good enough mobility, and coming out of the Dan Mullen system — which is what got Dak Prescott ready for the NFL — I think he is more pro-ready than a lot of people believe. Kyle Trask, if you miss out on the big five quarterbacks – I think he is a viable solution for Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels, someone they can draft and develop and then get onto the field.”

The 2021 NFL Draft starts with Round 1 on April 29. It sounds like Trask is more likely to hear his name called the following night when Rounds 2 and 3 are held.
