Recently, the Florida Gators signed DC Todd Grantham to a contract that will pay him more than $1 million annually.

That makes him the first Florida assistant to make more than $1 million a year, something which would have been unfathomable a few short years ago.

At the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida, on Wednesday, Florida AD Scott Stricklin lamented the rising costs of top coordinators, saying he thinks it’s one of the biggest challenges in college athletics (via The Orlando Sentinel):

“I think it’s one of the biggest challenges we have in college athletics, is what our coaches are making,” Stricklin said. “They are in a market that allows them to enjoy those kinds of salaries, but I do think the optics of it are not helpful.”

Stricklin himself only makes a little over $1 million annually, so now there are assistants on the Florida staff making more than him.

However, this trend of rising coordinator salaries is only going to continue, it seems, so Stricklin needs to get on board or else the Gators could fall behind other SEC schools.
