Chris Doering has given his latest thoughts on a notable candidate for the open coaching job at Florida.

The former Gators wide receiver who lives in the Gainesville area said on “SEC This Morning” on the SEC Network that he has warmed up to the idea of Billy Napier of Louisiana-Lafayette being hired as Florida’s coach.

Co-host Peter Burns asked Doering, “do you think Billy Napier has some tentacles to it in Gainesville?”

Doering replied, “I do think that’s probably what Florida is looking at going forward and I’ve gotten more and more excited about the idea as I’ve watched and talked to people that know him and the energy that he seems to have, so I think it’s probably inevitable at this point that we’ll be talking about it.”

According to the Advocate, Napier was asked about rumors of him being tied to the Florida job.

As the No. 23-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns prepare for Saturday’s 3 p.m. regular-season finale against UL-Monroe at Cajun Field, Napier had one short reply to questions about his interest in the Florida position.

“No decisions made yet,” he said.
