The Florida Gators are going back to Omaha. No. 2 national seed UF completed a Super Regional sweep of No. 15 seed South Carolina with a 4-0 win behind a career game from starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep, who struck out 13 batters.

Waldrep was at a new career-high when he completed the 8th inning. He came back out for the bottom of the 9th inning but left after giving up an infield single to the leadoff batter. Closer Brandon Neely retired 3 Gamecocks in order to end the game.

Waldrep, Florida’s No. 2 starter in the weekend rotation, finished with a stellar line of 8 IP, 3 H, 13 K, 2 BB, facing 29 batters over 117 pitches.

Colby Halter led the way for the Gators at the plate. He got the Gators on the board with a 2-run double and picked up a 3rd RBI on a sac fly.

Josh Rivera also had a key RBI, following up his 2-RBI night in Friday’s 5-4 win.

Florida’s record is now 50-15 in 2023. For Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan, it’s the first 50-win season since the 2017 national championship squad won 52 games.

It is UF’s first trip to the College World Series since 2018. The Gators will face the winner of the Charlottesville Super Regional, which is going to Game 3 between Virginia and Duke.
