Freshman safety Jordan Castell has gotten out to a stellar start in his collegiate career at Florida through three games, and he is being acknowledged for his efforts.

Castell was named the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club, which is an extension of the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award that debuted in 2018.

The award is named after former Alabama, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders running back Shaun Alexander, who recorded 589 yards and six touchdowns as a true freshman in 1996.

Against Tennessee last Saturday, Castell recorded 10 tackles and 1 pass breakup in a breakout performance. In the Gators’ previous two games, Castell posted 10 tackles combined. The effort helped allow Florida to limit UT’s normally efficient rushing attack to just 100 yards on the ground.

Castell was rated as a 3-star recruit coming out of West Orange High School in Winter Gardens, Fl. With Billy Napier showing that he is more than happy to play young players early in their careers, Castell has the chance to solidify himself as a mainstay in the DB rotation for Florida this season.

The safety was also named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.
