Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons was ejected for spitting on a Florida State player late in the 1st half on Saturday night in Gainesville.

Lyons got into it with FSU’s Keiondre Jones after a play. Lyons then appeared to spit in Jones’ face as an official was approaching to break up the skirmish. He was assessed a 15-yard penalty and ejected from the game.

Here’s a replay of the incident:

Florida State took full advantage of the mistake, scoring a touchdown later in the drive. That score made it 12-7 in the closing seconds of the first half.

Lyons has been a significant part of Florida’s defensive line rotation this season. He entered this game with 20 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss so far in 2023. Lyons is in his second season at Florida. He’s largely served as the backup to nose tackle Cam Jackson this season.

Outside of this mistake by Lyons, Florida’s defensive line had a strong first half. It limited the Noles to just 13 rushing yards on 10 carries and forced a safety in the second quarter.

Florida holds a 12-7 lead over FSU at the break.
