The Florida Gators have landed one of the top remaining defensive backs in the transfer portal.

Former Tulane DB DJ Douglas took to social media to announce that he will be joining the Gators for the 2024 season. Douglas posted a photo donning Florida threads and a hype video with the caption “It’s a blessing just to be here.”

Here’s his announcement:

The DB had a career-year in 2023, finishing with 54 tackles and 3 interceptions. Douglas was 2nd on the team in INTs and developed into a ballhawk for the Green Wave. The Gators have now added 2 defensive backs via the transfer portal. Douglas joins former Oregon corner Trikweze Bridges as the new additions to the secondary in Gainesville.

Douglas originally walked on to the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2019. After 2 years of playing sparingly with the Tide, Douglas transferred to the Green Wave in 2021. Through 3 years in New Orleans, Douglas racked up 80 tackles, 4 INTs, and 3 pass defenses.

The Gators have thus far added 8 players via the portal. Grayson Howard, Chimere Dike, and Joey Slackman are the other notable additions. However, the team has seen a whopping 22 players enter the portal. Trevor Etienne, Princely Umanmielen, and Scooby Williams are the notable losses for the Gators.
