Florida has added former UAB defensive back Adrian Maddox to its portal haul for the 2025 season.

Maddox committed to Billy Napier and his Gators on Sunday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Maddox began his career at Alabama State before moving to UAB ahead of the 2024 season. He’ll have 1 year of eligibility with the Gators.

He chose the Gators after reportedly taking visits to Arkansas, Louisville, and Georgia.

Maddox is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound safety. He was an unranked recruit coming out of Conyers (Ga.) Heritage in the 2022 class. After 2 seasons with Alabama State, Maddox made the jump to UAB and started 10 times for the Blazers.

With the Hornets, he played in 21 games while totaling 90 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 10 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions. In 2022, he was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, an honor given to the top freshman at the FCS level.

During the 2024 season, Maddox recorded 44 tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 forced fumbles, 8 pass breakups, and 1 interception. He returned the pick 99 yards for a score in a 40-14 win over Rice on Nov. 23. Maddox was the highest-graded player on the UAB defense last season, per Pro Football Focus.

Throughout his career, he has played mostly as a nickel back. Florida should be able to utilize his versatility in the back end of its defense; he’s a player who has proven disruptive at each of his previous stops. Some of his highlights are below.
