According to one metric, Florida quarterback Austin Appleby has turned out the best quarterback performance of the day so far.

Appleby — filing in for the injured Luke Del Rio — posted a 96.1 QBR, which is tops among all FBS players so far Saturday. ESPN designed the statistic to measure a quarterback’s performance on a play-by-play basis while also evaluating his overall contribution to a win.
In the traditional score book, Appleby completed 17-of-21 passes for 201 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His two touchdowns came in the first half and helped the Gators jump to out to an early lead in their 20-7 win against South Carolina.
