Florida QB Kyle Trask weighs in on Marco Wilson's infamous shoe-throwing penalty
The Florida Gators lost in unbelievable fashion on Saturday night against LSU, as a thrown shoe cost them dearly late in the fourth quarter.
The shoe was thrown by Marco Wilson, who was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.
Obviously, many have called out Wilson for his costly mistake. But, on Wednesday’s “Marty & McGee,” Florida QB Kyle Trask praised the talented Florida DB and said his teammates have his back:
"Obviously, [Marco Wilson] made one mistake there at the end but that doesn’t summarize who he is as a player. …
First thing’s first, we should’ve never been in that situation."

“First of all, a lot of talk has been about Marco and all that, but he made a lot of great plays in that game,” Trask said. “And, obviously, he made one mistake there at the end, but that doesn’t summarize who he is as a player. He made a lot of great plays this whole entire season and in that game. First things first, we should have never been in that situation.”
Wilson is indeed a talented player, who will surely learn from this mistake. Trask’s leadership of this Florida team is evident in this response to a tough question.
Well answered, Kyle Trask.
Trask is right. 1st they should have never been in that situation and Marco did make a lot of great plays and his biggest one was for LSU.
Class act, Kyle. And by the way, congratulations on your 2 TD passes and 2 TD runs. That’s what a Heisman looks like – working hard for his team, unlike your competition, who sat back and got 0 TD passes and 0 TD runs.
You mean the competition that had 0 turnovers and led his team to a 52 – 3 win.
Roll Tide !
Mac Jones threw for 208 with no TDs in a game where his team scored 52. That didn’t help his Heisman chances, if anything it showed how unimportant he is.
Trask threw for 474 and accounted for 4 TDs and is the reason UF is in the SEC Championship game.
A Heisman looks like 3 turnovers? LMAO
Ok, let’s be a little realistic here, though. The first pick was 100% on Trask. That DB did a great job of baiting. The fumble was also on him trying too hard to do too much at that point. But that second pick was a series of crazy events that wouldn’t happen with even a fraction of a second or centimeter change. It goes on the stat sheet, but not really indicative of Trask.
And let’s also be realistic on the number. Trask had 3 turnovers all season before LSU. He’s still at 5 interceptions, which is one less than Burrow had last season. So long as he plays mistake-free football the next game, he’s still doing pretty well.
Is saying Trask had 3 turnovers not realistic?
Do you think those 3 turnovers did help LSU win the game?
Is that a Heisman worthy performance against a team that Just got blown out the week prior?
FL = 3 QB Heisman AL = 0 QB Heisman
Florida = Starting QB lost to 3 win team..
Florida = Starting QB turned ball over 3 times to 3 win team
Florida = starting QB with a QBR currently ranked 9th
How does that apply to this year? Florida has won them in the past so Trask deserves it this year.
good comment until the end there… gators need to focus on ourselves rather than try to put other people down.
No reason to trash another team/player to prop up your own.
Because he didn’t have to.
Maybe he should have done what his competition did in the 1st half against LSU. That way he could have 1 more TD pass, a better completion % and a win.
Trask showing that he’s a bigger man than his head coach.
He should definitely leave and make his money. Leave this dumpster fire of a program
Dumpster fire of a program?
The man didn’t stutter
You may want to do a search of LSU and allegations before you point that finger. You guys are in for a tough off-season.
LSU just lost some hard recruiting battles to Bama, has potentially a ton of defections again this off season, and a looming sexual assault investigation that’ll wrap up here shortly. I’d pump the breaks on throwing stones
Hold on now lol as a vol fan that’s offensive to think you got it bad.
Gotta admit, this made me chuckle. No offense, Cap!
Troll posts always irk me, not because I’m super protective, but because extreme hyperbole in any instance bothers me lol
You’re right, it was hyperbole. I’m just saying that we’re going to be taking a step back next year and Dan isn’t always great about owning up to coaching flaws. According to the folks on the TV broadcast before the game, Mullen and Grantham we’re talking to them about playoff seeding. As in, they were expecting to beat LSU and Alabama. All that talk about taking it one game at a time was just talk.
idk man. Definitely not a dumpster fire, but this was our year to make the playoff, and there was some serious arrogance on the coach’s part that helped end this season end shorter than it should have.
helped end this season sooner that it should have*
SDS needs an “edit” option badly.
Kyle Trask is a great player and a real class act. I attribute part of that to his Aggie roots.
There’s nothing else he could have said in this situation. He’s going to need Wilson to go on a tear in a couple of days, so he’s doing what leaders do – they build their teammates up.
Well stated, my man.
The CFP committee dropped Florida to only 7 in the ranking because it knows Trask is going to win the Heisman and it wants to do everything in its power to get the Heisman winner into the playoffs. It’s the right thing to do.
It’s a nice thought, but I don’t think so. The CFP put UF at 7 as an insurance policy to protect Bama, I believe. If UF were to pull the upset on Saturday and win the game, it already puts them in a bind on who to select. Bama has looked like a monster team all season, one that deserves a spot, but you’d be hard pressed to take the SEC runner up over the SEC champ, even if the champ has one more loss. On the other hand, UF would have an SEC trophy and the best on paper win of any team this season, so you’d be hard pressed to take the SEC runner up over the SEC champ, even if the runner up passes the eye test. This way, they can leave the door open for two SEC teams to make it without too much controversy (especially if Clem gets their second loss, or OSU loses to NW).
CBM i believe you are 100% correct, and teh fact that they ranked UGA to high to start so that benefittted Florida aswell!
How long did it for you to type that while laughing your azz off. Joke of the year.
classy.
See, Dan? THAT’s how you answer.
Well in Dan’s defense he didn’t see it. And apparently still has not seen it.
Way better response than ‘ol Danny boy
Trask and Jones are heisman worthy — but that loss to a bad LSU team and 3 turnovers likely sealed the deal. Unless Trask can put up huge numbers against Alabama – Jones should win it
Unless Devonte Smith wins it. Heisman voters are a funny bunch.
