Even with both teams in rebuilding mode with relatively new coaches, the Florida-Tennessee rivalry continues to burn. A sign that made its way around The Swamp on Saturday speaks to that rivalry.

“Tennessee is UT-Martin’s practice squad,” was the sign that at one point was held by Albert, the Gators’ mascot.

Florida no doubt chose UT-Martin because the Gators beat that team in Week 2, 45-0, and followed up another victory over the Vols two weeks later, 34-3. Florida’s now on a three-game winning streak in the series, and leads the overall rivalry, 29-20. Florida has won 14 of 15 in a rivalry that used to be among the most nationally recognized in the SEC, and usually settled the SEC East race some 20-plus years ago.

The 4-0 Gators are really feeling their oats with  a game against Towson this week before Auburn comes to town on Oct. 5. The Gators then get LSU and South Carolina before the off week ahead of Georgia. Barring a major upset, Florida should remain in the top 10 of the polls for a while as the Gators look to get key players back from injury including C.J. Henderson and Kadarius Toney.
