According to the Gainesville PD, Florida sophomore starting C T.J. McCoy and his girlfriend were struck by a drunk driver early Friday morning. They were riding a scooter when a blue 2011 Honda Civic struck the couple and took off, constituting a hit-and-run. The couple were found on the side of the road after the incident and promptly sent to the hospital. Thankfully, their injuries are listed as non-life threatening.

The owner of the vehicle, Samantha Meldrem, was apprehended shortly after while fleeing the scene.

The details were confirmed by McCoy’s father on Facebook.

It truly is a Good Friday! God is SO Good! I don’t even know how to start this testimony.

At 3am this morning my wife and I received a call from the Trauma unit at Shands Hospital informing us that our son TJ had been in a hit and run accident and was found on the side of the road. It turned out that a drunk driver hit TJ and his girlfriend at a stop light after they left the library and fled the scene. With little information and declaring VICTORY my family and I headed to Gainesville. Seems like within minutes after we received the call, his Offensive Line coach was in the hospital with him keeping us updated.

I’m truly grateful for ALL the staff here at Shands and the way that they have looked after my son. I’m grateful for the ENTIRE Coaching staff at Florida. Listen, anyone can make their mouth say that they care, but this coaching staff here at Flordia showed that they mean what they say when they say FAMILY. Mr. George who is head of football operations coming and sitting with my wife and daughter meant a lot to me and my family.

We have been overshadowed with love, calls, prayers and support by everyone from Coach Mac and his entire staff. As a former Gator I’m grateful for the level of excellence and care that has been shown to my family.

Again I say THIS IS TRULY A “GOOD FRIDAY!” The devil is a liar. “NO WEAPON Formed against us will prosper!” I’m grateful that Jesus Christ is ALIVE and that His BLOOD is still Powerful in protecting.
Thanks in advance for your prayers for TJ, his girlfriend and the drunk driver. GOD IS GOOD!

McCoy appeared in seven games throughout last season and made four starts. He’s a key piece to the Gators’ offensive line, and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.
