Florida will play the rest of the 2024 season without starting wide receiver Eugene “Tre” Wilson III, according to a report from Zach Abolverdi of On3 Sports.

This news comes on the heels of Wilson undergoing hip surgery on Tuesday. The report from On3 states that the wideout’s hip issue “is a congenital issue and was uncovered over the course of the season.” Playing through it only gave Wilson more problems as the season continued onward. It seems to be something that has caused issues for the sophomore for quite a while now.

Gators head coach Billy Napier addressed Wilson’s ailment during his press conference on Monday, describing the injury as “lingering.”

“I think Tre’s injury has been lingering,” Napier explained. “It’s been an issue that he’s had for quite a while that we’ve been navigating. I think at times he’s been able to produce and then there will be setbacks.”

Wilson, to this point in the season, had seen action in four games. He totaled 19 receptions for 266 yards with 1 touchdown, averaging 14 yards per catch.

Without Wilson joining them, the Gators will look to continue their season in the right direction when they face No. 5-ranked Texas as an underdog on Saturday at noon ET on the road. They’ll enter this one, unsurprisingly, as heavy underdogs.
