Former Florida defensive back Marco Wilson was released by the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, the team announced.

Wilson has recorded 158 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and 18 pass breakups since being drafted by the Cardinals with the 136th pick (4th Round) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He had a breakout campaign in ’22, recording all of his interceptions during that season, but Arizona opted to release the DB amidst plenty of change and reevaluation within the franchise.

The former Gator is perhaps most well-known for his infamous throwing of an LSU player’s shoe during Florida’s game against the Bayou Bengals in 2020. Sitting at No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings and primed for a shot at qualifying for the final four, the Gators just had to take down a reeling 3-5 LSU team late in the season. Instead, Ed Orgeron’s group went score-for-score with the fast-paced Florida offense, and it set up a key drive late in the game.

On a 3rd-and-10, Florida brought down LSU tight end Kole Taylor short of the line to gain. But, Wilson stood up and threw the Taylor’s shoe and was swiftly awarded a 15-yard penalty. The Tigers then drove down the field and hit a field goal that would prove to be the difference in the game.

Outside of that, Wilson did enjoy a productive career with Florida, recording 99 total tackles, 3 interceptions and 17 pass breakups over three seasons.
