Former Florida slugger Pete Alonso wins 2019 Home Run Derby
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may have stolen the show at the 2019 Home Run Derby in Cleveland, but he didn’t take home the trophy.
That honor went to former Florida slugger Pete Alonso, who is a rookie for the New York Mets. In the final round against Vlad Jr., Guerrero hit 22 homers, but then Alonso followed it up with 23 for the victory.
Below, you can watch his final home run, which he celebrated in exciting fashion as it cleared the fence:

Alonso beat hometown slugger Carlos Santana of the Indians in Round 1 and took down Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. in the semifinals to meet up with Guerrero, who had already hit a record 69 home runs in the first two rounds.
Alonso will make only $555,000 this season, but he just won $1 million for winning the derby. He pledged to give 10 percent of his winnings to a couple of charities that help support the troops.
