Former Florida slugger Pete Alonso has kept his hard-hitting ways going with the New York Mets.

During his rookie season in 2019, Alonso mashed a rookie-record 53 home runs and also won the Home Run Derby, cementing himself as one of the best sluggers in the game already.

On Monday, it was announced that he won the National League Rookie of the Year award:

Alonso finished the season with a .260 batting average, 53 homers and 120 RBI. It was an incredible rookie campaign.

The MLB Twitter account posted this amazing video honoring Alonso’s season, taking viewers back to his time with the Gators:

Can Alonso continue to mash big-league pitching? He’s one of the brightest young stars in the game today.
