On Tuesday, the NCAA ruled that Notre Dame had to vacate all of its wins during the 2012 and 2013 seasons due to allowing players who were ineligible to compete.

That, of course, means that Notre Dame’s only “official” game during the 2012-13 season was its BCS National Championship blowout at the hands of Alabama.

Now that the news is official, though, former Florida star Trey Burton, who just won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, took to Twitter to express frustration that the Gators missed out on a chance to play for the title:

The Gators were No. 3 in the final BCS Standings and No. 4 in that week’s AP Poll (undefeated Ohio State was No. 3, but was ineligible for postseason play). Therefore, Burton is right — the Gators would have been in the title game.

Florida, interestingly, didn’t even make it to the SEC Championship Game that year (sound familiar?), as Alabama beat Georgia.

Fortunately for Burton, he’ll be getting a championship ring this year from the Eagles, but some of his other former Florida teammates won’t experience the thrill of playing for a title.
