Matt Elam is being given another shot to prove he has what it takes to play in the NFL.

The Saints are bringing in Elam in the hopes he can land a summer roster spot this offseason.

The former Gator standout defender was a first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2013 but was released in 2017 after being arrested on drug charges. He did not play last season and was a recent participant at Florida’s Pro Day with the other draft hopefuls from Gainesville.

In 41 career NFL games, Elam made 88 tackles and a single interception. While he hasn’t done anything of note in the pros, he was a tackling machine all over the field for the Gators during his three-year career. Elam posted 176 tackles, 23.5 tackles-for-loss and had five sacks and six interceptions.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Elam’s legal issues have been worked out, which may have cleared the path for him to potentially return to the field in New Orleans.
