Garrick McGee is reportedly going back to the Big Ten after spending the last 2 seasons at Florida. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reports that McGee will be Purdue’s new wide receivers coach.
McGee joined the Florida coaching staff in 2020 as an analyst. Ahead of the 2021 season, Dan Mullen promoted McGee to quarterbacks coach following Brian Johnson’s departure for the Philadelphia Eagles. After Mullen’s firing, McGee filled in as the Gators’ play-caller against Florida State and Central Florida. New UF head coach Billy Napier did not retain any of Mullen’s on-field assistants.
McGee arrived at Florida after 2 seasons at Mizzou as an analyst (2018) and wide receivers coach (2019). He was on staff at Arkansas from 2008-to-2011 as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, a title he added in 2010.
McGee heads to Purdue with multiple seasons of B1G experience. He was on staff at Northwestern as wide receivers coach (2004-05) and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (2006-07). McGee was later Illinois’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for 2 seasons (2016-07).
McGee, 48, has been in coaching since 1996.
