Each and every year, college baseball teams around the country have one clear goal — get to Omaha.

That involves navigating non-conference and conference schedules throughout the season, including the conference tournament. It requires getting a favorable regional and super regional, too. That most always involves hosting both series.

The SEC has been well represented in recent history in Omaha at the College World Series, as the conference is dominant in baseball. Vanderbilt won the national title in 2019, and Florida won it in 2017. Since 2009, 6 teams have won national titles — LSU, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Florida.

This year, the No. 1 Florida Gators have one of its best teams under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan. In fact, Florida is off to a program best 12-0 start for 2020. Its record-breaking win came Tuesday night in a 7-3 win over FAU in West Palm Beach.

“We played awfully well tonight. We played great defense,” O’Sullivan said. “The crowd was outstanding. And what can you say about our bullpen?”

Sophomore outfielder Jacob Young leads the team in hitting at .465, with a .529 on-base percentage. Jud Fabian (.321), Josh Rivera (.316) and Jordan Butler (.304) are all hitting above .300. Fabian leads the team in homeruns with five.

Tommy Mace has been the workhorse on the mound throwing a team best 20 innings and has an ERA of just 2.25. Mace, Ben Specht, Hunter Barco and David Luethje are all 2-0 on the young season. Specht has also added two saves.

Earlier this year, the top-ranked Gators swept a top-five program in the Miami Hurricanes 2-1, 7-4 and 5-3. SEC play starts March 13th against the Georgia Bulldogs.
