Raise your hand if you thought this week couldn’t get worse for Florida Gators quarterbacks.

Well, it just did.

The Gainesville Sun reported Tuesday afternoon that quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg and freshman defensive lineman Gerald Willis got into a physical altercation outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Monday night.

According to the report, University of Florida police had received a complaint and were dispatched to The Swamp around 7 p.m.

Both Willis and Mornhinweg declined to press charges against one another. A Florida spokesperson told OnlyGators.com that it was simply just a “misunderstanding between two teammates.”

News of the fight between Florida teammates piles on to already a tumultuous week for the Gators football program. True freshman quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended indefinitely due to a sexual assault accusation placed against him over the weekend.

Behind Harris, redshirt junior quarterback Jeff Driskel is expected to resume his duties as starting quarterback against LSU this weekend. Because of a back injury to another true freshman quarterback Will Grier, Mornhinweg was expected to be Driskel’s backup.

Last season, Mornhinweg played in three games due to injuries sustained to Jeff Driskel and Tyler Murphy. He threw 334 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Willis has seen intermittent playing time in his first season at Florida.

At this time, no updates have been given on Mornhinweg or Willis’ status for the Gators’ next game.
