Gervon Dexter discusses difficult decision to leave Florida to declare for 2023 NFL Draft
Gervon Dexter is an intriguing prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft class. Earlier this year, he was receiving some Round 1 buzz, but that has since quieted.
Now at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Dexter will be trying to prove that he should be an early round pick in April in Kansas City.
How difficult was the decision to leave Florida as Billy Napier continues to rebuild the Gator program? Dexter discussed that on Wednesday:
Asked Florida DL Gervon Dexter if it was a tough decision for him to declare for the draft given that the team is starting to build under Napier:

“It was a tough decision and it came down to the last minute,” Dexter explained.
Now the decision has been made, though, and Dexter will try to put his best foot forward this week in Indy. In 2022, he recorded 55 tackles (4 for a loss), 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 pass breakup.
Gervon Dexter must be confused. Hasn’t he read any of the recent SDS articles by Hayes, O’gara or even Spencer. Hasn’t he read any of the comments posted by Phil, ugagatorunderthelake or the myriad of Georgia Morons?
I mean the guy is supposed to know what is going on after all he was part of the team. What’s wrong with him, how can the decision to leave Florida be hard? Wouldn’t anyone jump at the chance to leave a sinking ship? Why stay on the Titanic with Captian Clueless of the SunBelt?
Spencer you have some splaining to do
LOL! You tell em Cojones.
The kid’s decision was probably more pragmatic and in all likelihood supported by his UF coaches. By everyone’s media description, he has NFL 1st round potential he’s seeking to show off at the combine, which means he’ll be drafted before the end of the 2nd round. NIL can’t touch that kind of first-year NFL money and sticking around for another year in college doesn’t guarantee he’ll end up going in the 1st round next year.
The only reason left to stick around for another season and risk injury would be for a chance at a championship run and “everyone” knows the 2023 Gators won’t be up to that level. Little does “everyone” realize that the Mertzinator is about to change the landscape of college football and Dexter will forever regret not sticking around to be part of his Fighting Gators hoard!
MEEERTZZ!!!
Mertzinator. Classic.
At least he’ll be able to complete a screen pass.
Dexter is a class kid, hope he does well and cashes in.
I been up, I been down
Take my word, my way around
I ain’t askin’ for much
I said, Lord, take me to Hogtown

I see this is the “early start” drinking day. Awesome post RealCo
ZZ Top, right? (:
The Rock from Texas for you doc
Too early for me right now Marsh but by 4:30 PM I’ll be ready for a cold one
Absolute classic Cojones! Right there with Mexican Blackbird, which has a rather salty opening verse.
Two-Four-Seven has an interesting article on the Spring QB competition at Florida. Napier’s position is that whomsoever earneth it geteth it.
Dexter will go in the 2nd round. Laziest article possible. Click bait. ?

Great comment RealC :) SDS writers definitely know more about Gator football than Dexter.
I hope he does great at the next level!
So do I.
You know more about Gator football than Dexter?
Who, me? I’m just wishing the lad well in his new adventure as I would any Gator except maybe …… well, I’ll have to get back to you on that.
