Graham Mertz, who transferred in from Wisconsin this past offseason, announced Thursday afternoon that he will be running it back 1 more season in Gainesville.

2024 will be Mertz’s final season in college football after taking a redshirt in 2019 and using the 2020 Covid-19 exemption season towards his eligibility.

Mertz made his decision official on social media Thursday afternoon.

This is not an unexpected move from Mertz, who had a much better season than most anticipated. The 5th-year senior is far from the flashiest QB in SEC, but he was one of the most accurate this past regular season. Mertz led the conference with a 72.9 completion percentage.

He plays smart with the football, too. Mertz threw just 3 interceptions this season, the fewest of any passers who threw at least 20 touchdowns.

The Florida QB will play a very, very tough schedule in 2024. The Gators face off against Miami, Tennessee, LSU, Florida State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Georgia. Whew.

That’s the SEC for you.
