Graham Mertz had been playing some of his best football during his college career in 2024, but he suffered a knee injury in the loss to Tennessee that has ended his season.

In his last 4 games, Mertz went 61-of-74 for 700 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was playing clean football and the Gators were starting to play much better as a result.

On Monday, he shared his appreciation with Gator Nation on social media, and promised that he would continue to do everything he can to help the team win.

“Thank you for 2 incredible years in Gainesville,” Mertz wrote. “Unfortunately, I suffered a torn ACL against Tennessee and will miss the remainder of the season. During my recovery, I will remain a part of the program and do whatever I can in meeting rooms, and from the sideline to help my teammates win. I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support during this time.”

With Mertz out, it is officially the DJ Lagway era in Gainesville. Lagway has shown much of the potential that earned him a 5-star rating as a member of the 2024 recruiting class. He has thrown for 765 yards and 5 touchdowns, but he has also thrown 4 interceptions.

Up next for Lagway and the Gators is Kentucky. That game will be in Gainesville, and kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
