Hurricane Ian is expected to make landfall in Florida sometime this weekend, and southern states could be severely impacted.

That obviously included the state of Florida. But as of right now, the football matchup between the Florida Gators and Eastern Washington is still scheduled as planned.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin tweeted the update earlier Monday but did say that the situation was being monitored.

While Gators coach Billy Napier is preparing for Saturday’s game, he expressed his hope that Florida residents are diligent in preparing for the storm.

“Probably more important is we just hope everyone is prepared,” Florida coach Billy Napier said, per GatorSports.com. “I know that we’re going to have some wind and significant rain here, but we’ve got a lot of people in our state that are in for a rough ride here so our thoughts and prayers or with them as they prepare.

“Having been a part of these things in the past, it’s nothing to play around with. We’ve got a game this week and all of that, but I think these things are little bit more important. And certainly we’re going to do everything we can do within our organization to help our players, their families, anybody that’s maybe at risk.”

Of course, it’s a less than ideal situation for Eastern Washington, which will be traveling more than 2,700 miles to play the game.
