Jac Caglianone remains one of the most lethal hitters in the country. Unfortunately for NC State, the Wolfpack opted to throw caution to the wind and pitch to Florida’s star slugger with a base open.

A 2-way star for the Gators, Caglianone took the mound on Monday in the elimination game against NC State. His 1st inning did not go smoothly with Caglianone’s control and velocity struggling leading to an early run for the Wolfpack, but his bat remains one of the most lethal around.

With 2 batters on and 2 outs in the top of the 2nd inning, NC State opted to pitch to Caglianone in questionable fashion. He did strikeout in his first plate appearance, but Dominic Fritton let his 0-1 pitch sneak across the middle of the plate.

It’s the kind of pitch any hitter dreams about, and Caglianone pummeled it. The home run was tracked at 404 feet but came off the bat at a blistering 115.9 mph.

Caglianone’s blast is historic on multiple fronts for the Gators. It is the 74th of his career, tying Florida legend Matt LaPorta’s career record. The home run was also Caglianone’s 34th of the season, breaking his own single-season program record of 33 set a season ago.

The job is far from finished with Florida looking to limit NC State’s bats and avoid elimination in Omaha. A win Monday afternoon would move the Gators into another matchup on Tuesday.
