Jalen Kitna is returning to college football after a year away from the sport.

Kitna will play for Trent Dilfer at UAB. ESPN’s Alex Scarborough reports that Kitna committed to the Blazers and has been admitted to UAB ahead of an official campus visit next week.

Kitna spent two seasons at Florida. In November 2022, he was arrested on child pornography charges after authorities were tipped off about an image distributed via Discord. The arrest led to Kitna’s indefinite suspension and dismissal from the program. Charges were dropped in July as part of a plea deal for disorderly conduct, a second-degree misdemeanor charge, and 6 months probation.

Kitna told ESPN that he is now “in good standing” at Florida and had offers from multiple programs to play football again. Dilfer offered some insight into the process of deciding to add Kitna to the team.

“Initial headlines can be hard to get past, even if they don’t hold up to the scrutiny of the legal process over time,” Dilfer said to ESPN. “UAB and the Department of Athletics have performed extensive due diligence, and I have personally looked at the facts of this case and the thorough investigation, and I’ve had candid conversations with Jalen and his parents. I firmly believe Jalen learned valuable lessons and will carry himself well and show great character as a member of our community. Otherwise, he would not be at UAB.”

Kitna has played in 4 college football games in his career, all in the 2022 season.
