Florida head coach Jim McElwain needs his defensive staff to do a better job this week.

McElwain wasn’t pleased with the preparation the defense got last week leading up to the Gators’ game against Vanderbilt, according to a report from GatorBait.net.

“I tell you, I don’t think we did a great job in the film-study piece with what our defensive staff gave our guys,” McElwain said. “Some of the clues immediately based on formation. I’m not sure we did a great job communicating that… and they took advantage of it. They did a really good job of that and we’re going to have to get that cleaned up this week.”

McElwain noted the Gators’ tackling will need to be better this week.

“They’ve played good defense, I think we played better. I think they’ll be the first ones to say that. And, you know, playing up to the standard,” he said. “Now, playing against these guys we’re going to play against this week, you’re going to have to play and grab cloth a little harder.

“You’re going to have to do everything with just a higher sense of urgency.”
