Jim McElwain sets soft timetable for information on replacement DC
When Geoff Collins accepted a head coaching offer from Temple on Tuesday morning, it left Florida with a spot to fill on its coaching staff.
Jim McElwain said he would consider internal candidates for the defensive coordinator vacancy, and the popular name being thrown about is inside linebackers coach Randy Shannon.
It will likely take some time for McElwain to come to a decision, however, and he gave a small indication about when he should know more.
Mac said he should know more on Collins' replacement at DC by next Monday, when he next meets with local reporters.

With the experience Eddie Gran has in recruiting the State of Florida, how could the search not start in Lexington? (sorry, another brain fart).
Eddie Gran is an offensive coordinator… not a defensive coordinator(Paris 10’s mind explodes)
I’d be okay with getting rid of nussmier while looking for Collins replacement
With Randy having been a HC in Miami, he’s a recruiter we need to keep around. Promoting him would be a huge for keeping players we already have committed. He also seems to be doing a great job with the LBs seeing as we have 2 of the top 10 rated coming out. Unless we find a way to lure Wisconsin’s or Colorado’s DC, Shannon is the guy. Right?
Promote RS to DC… he won’t recruit as much as a result though, but could be used as a focus recruiter on specific targets.
Use the money saved from Collins leaving to go out and nab a top rated, young and relevant to recruits, type coach who could reel in talent.
Let’s face it, RS is not going to want to remain running all over the place as he gets older. Let him focus on being DC and specific targets.
That of course is if RS wants to stay as a DC and not leave for an HBC spot himself.
