All the momentum Jim McElwain gained winning the East the last two seasons appears to have quickly disappeared thanks to a 3-3 start to the 2017 season. Now entering the annual Georgia game as a two-touchdown underdog isn’t doing much to calm the nerves of the Gator fan base.

Drop the Jacksonville game this weekend and Florida will have to win three of its final four games just to make it to a bowl game.

The Florida coach was among the first coaches to speak during Wednesday’s SEC Teleconference. Here’s a summary of what he said during the call:

  • Gameplanning for Georgia, what have you noticed there? “Well, Jim Chaney and those guys on offense have done a good job of spreading the ball around and keeping you guessing. That’s the thing I see. How they are using guys, those backs especially, affecting the team. They don’t care about how many times they touch it and that’s unique. Kirby’s done a good job of getting talent in there.”
  • Have you seen a backfield as deep as Georgia’s? “They are all different. Kirby and I were part of a team that had (Trent) Richardson, (Eddie) Lacy, (Mark) Ingram… That’s how there are building it (at Georgia).”
  • On his death threats comments, anymore there? “Well, one of the things for those that know me, I’m a real passionate guy… The care that I have for these players, we have great fans that are passionate. I do feel bad for being open and being honest and yet I’ve seen this movie and I understand it.”
  • Do you have no more details? “When it becomes unmanageable… I have a lot of care for this program and these people. Allowing things to get to you, you can’t do that. We will move forward and play this ball game.”
  • Thoughts on Kirby Smart after spending time with him on Alabama’s staff? “He was a guy you knew would be successful. He learned a lot about gameplanning and building and he has them playing at a high level.”
  • Thoughts on the UGA OL? “They have done a really good job of getting guys in a place to play how they want them to play. (Georgia OL coach) Sam (Pittman) has done a good job like he’s done everywhere.”
