Kirk Herbstreit blasts Florida for lack of leadership in wake of 10 Week 1 suspensions

When Florida kicks off its 2017 season on Saturday afternoon against Michigan, it’ll do so without a whopping 10 suspended players.
Among the suspended Gators are star WR Antonio Callaway and starting RB Jordan Scarlett, both of whom were caught up in the credit card fraud and misuse of school funds case.
By having to take on a tough Wolverines squad without those 10 players, Florida coach Jim McElwain is in a tough spot. On ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning, analyst Kirk Herbstreit said McElwain has no one to blame but himself for not creating a culture of accountability in the Florida locker room:
“This is an offense that, it’s not as if they’ve been averaging 40 or 50 points a game,” Herbstreit said. “Of course it’s going to have a big impact when you see 10 players [suspended] before the season starts. We can point the finger all we want at [McElwain], but where’s the internal leadership? Clearly at Florida, they don’t have any leadership or they wouldn’t have 10 guys suspended for the first game.”
The matchup between the short-handed Gators and the Wolverines is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on ABC.
