Being the head coach of the Florida Gators is no easy task, as fan expectations are higher in Gainesville than in nearly any other college town in the country.

However, the Gators are looking for a new coach now after parting ways with Jim McElwain last weekend, and they need to make sure they get the hire right.

On Saturday’s episode of College GameDay, analyst Kirk Herbstreit said the next coach of the Gators needs to understand that Florida fans expect a high-powered offensive squad.

He then went on to name former Oregon coach Chip Kelly and UCF coach Scott Frost as his top two candidates for the position.

“You’re not just hiring a coach,” he said. “They want to score. They don’t want to win the old-fashioned way. Chip Kelly’s name should be brought up for any college job that opens up, but to me, Scott Frost has got an edge to him.”

Who Florida hires next remains to be seen, but it’s probably a safe bet that the Gators will at least reach out to those two guys to gauge their interest in the position.
