In a special season for Kyle Trask, the Florida quarterback added another mark to the record books.

With a 9-yard screen pass to Kadarius Toney in the third quarter, Trask had his 40th touchdown pass this season, the most in a single season in Florida history. It was his second touchdown pass of the game and moved him past Danny Wuerffel, who set the record in 1996 with 39 during his Heisman Trophy and national championship run. That figure doesn’t include Wuerffel’s three scores during that season’s Sugar Bowl.

Only four players in SEC history have passed for more touchdowns in a single season than Trask: LSU’s Joe Burrow (60 in 2019), Missouri’s Drew Lock (44 in 2017), Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (43 in 2018) and Kentucky’s Andre Woodson (40 in 2007).

Trask is a top Heisman Trophy contender, and finalists will be announced the Monday after the SEC Championship. If Trask wins, he would be the fourth Gator to win the trophy, following Steve Spurrier, Wuerffel and Tim Tebow as the only winners in Gators history. They all have statues outside of The Swamp.

Moments after Trask set the new mark, Wuerffel congratulated him.
