Muschamp makes wise decision to start Treon Harris at QB

This season has been pretty dang wild so far. A lot of Cinderella stories and a ton of upsets.

There also has been some very good coaching out there, and one coach in particular, may have saved his job. Coach Will Muschamp has the Florida Gators playing some pretty good football the last few weeks, with a huge upset against Georgia and a solid victory over Vanderbilt.

Ever since he made the quarterback switch, the Gators have played much better. I hate to say it because I’m friends with Jeff Driskel, but they had to get something going.

After playing for coach Steve Spurrier, I’m no stranger to quarterback switches. I was on both sides of the switch, and it was pretty terrible going through it.

You have to tip your hat to Muschamp because you could tell it was a difficult decision for him. Driskel busted his ass to get back in football shape after the injuries he sustained over the years, there’s no denying that. However, the Gators offense stagnated and he had to make the decision to go with Treon Harris.

While Harris didn’t need to be anything special against the Bulldogs (he threw just six passes), he showed some very good stuff at Vandy. The players seem to respond well to him and they look like they a little more fire in them since Florida made the switch.

Coach Muschamp said in his postgame press conference that he was impressed with Harris’s maturity. That says a lot about such a young kid making only his second career start. If he can continue playing well, the Gators future may be bright and coach Muschamp will be back in Gainsville next season.

Well done, coach. Well done.
