Duke Dawson will begin his second NFL season with a new team.

On Friday, Dawson was traded from the New England Patriots to the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In exchange, the Pats received the Broncos’ sixth-round pick in 2020, while Denver also received New England’s seventh-round pick in 2020 along with Dawson.

Dawson was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft, as they traded up to the No. 56 pick to select the former Florida cornerback. However, Dawson never played a game during his rookie season, as he was on injured reserve until mid-November with a hamstring injury.

Dawson played 48 games for the Gators from 2014-17, earning first-team All-SEC honors during his senior season. He had 82 tackles and six interceptions in 48 career games.

In four preseason games for the Patriots, Dawson had three tackles and an interception, all of which came in their last game against the New York Giants.

New England has a crowded secondary with starting cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Jason McCourty, 2019 second-round pick Joejuan Williams and second-year player J.C. Jackson, which likely led to its decision to send Dawson to Denver.
