Florida senior lineman TJ Slaton has made his decision for the 2021 season
The door was left open for TJ Slaton to make a return to Gainesville in 2021 but that won’t be happening.
The senior Gator is off to the NFL after starting all of Florida’s regular season games in 2020.
Slaton’s decision to end his college career was an expected one but with the NCAA giving all players the option of taking a free season of eligibility in 2020, there was a chance that the defensive lineman would suit up for Florida one last time.
Instead, Slaton is off to the next level as he has signed with an agency, which was announced by MVA Sports on Thursday.
For his career in Gainesville, Slaton racked up 99 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and an interception.
Based on recent additions to the roster in Gainesville, the coaching staff likely expected this news as Florida has landed Penn State graduate transfer Antonio Shelton and Auburn transfer, Daquan Newkirk.
Both players — provided they are both eligible in 2021 — play on the defensive line and could help mitigate the loss of Slaton’s production for the Gators next season.
Good luck! Rock and roll in the NFL!
That is to bad. I feel like he could have really improved his draft stock next year. He still had something to prove. Could have really bettered his tape. It seemed that he could only give good energy for 1 or 2 plays in a series. Even after Campbell came back and ate double teams I still feel Slaton under performed. Good luck to him at the next level.
I think his biggest mistake was switching to defense. I think he could’ve been an All American at guard.
Sure wish we could have held on to him another year!!! BUT GOOD LUCK TO YA SLATON!!! THANKS FOR BEING A SOLID GATOR!!!
