Billy Napier faces a tough situation in the regular season rival showdown finale against rival Florida State on Saturday.

Napier has a 5-6 record this year with the Gators, which means a potential second-straight losing season in Gainesville, Florida, for him if his team can’t beat the Seminoles. FSU is a tall order this year with serious College Football Playoff aspirations.

“Napier is a tough call,” college football analyst Paul Finebaum said about Napier’s job security during the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning podcast on Monday. “I like a lot of things about the program, but the next week is going to be critical to watch what happens off the field as well as what happens on the field … on Saturday night. Can he hold on to this recruiting class?”

Florida ranks 5th among college football recruiting classes for 2024 per 247 Sports. The Seminoles rank ahead of the Gators and at third and could potentially snatch a recruitment flip with a win on Saturday.

“This is one of those situations where Saturday night is going to answer so many things,” Finebaum said. “If they have a similar type performance that we saw in Missouri, then I think the feeling of administrators and the boosters walking out, ‘let’s roll the dice.'”
