Dan Mullen is getting rave reviews so far.

The new Florida coach had public practices, he embraced former players and coaches, and from all accounts, he runs practice the right way.

In fact, Mullen and his staff made such a solid impression that even recently-graduated players like Brandon Powell said they wish they had some more eligibility left.

“I like it. I walked through there while they were working out and I wish I could play with these coaches,” Powell said at Florida’s pro day via 247sports. “Too bad I can’t, but they’re going to be real good. It starts in the weight room. Those coaches, they look like they love it. They be in there joining, happy with them, celebrating with them.”

It’s understandable why the former receiver wished his career could’ve coincided with Mullen’s time in Gainesville instead of Jim McElwain’s.

The Gators weren’t exactly the nation’s best at maximizing the talent of their wideouts during the McElwain era. Powell, who had 406 receiving yards as a senior, was 5 yards away from being the team’s leading receiver in 2017.

Powell also added an observation “that here’s a lot more learning than just out here playing trying to impress somebody” (247sports).

It remains to be seen if Mullen will finally be the one to turn the Gators’ lackluster offensive identity around.

At the very least, he’s getting more and more people to buy in.
