Devastating reports coming out of Tampa, Florida, Sunday morning.

Multiple reports, confirmed by a former Florida player and friends on social media, say that former Florida standout wide receiver Reche Caldwell was shot and killed in Tampa Saturday night.

TMZ confirmed the news. Caldwell’s mom spoke glowingly of her son and said he helped everyone he could:

Caldwell excelled in Steve Spurrier’s Fun ‘n’ Gun offense for the Gators. In 3 career seasons in Gainesville spanning from 1999-2001, Caldwell caught 141 passes for 2,088 yards and 18 touchdowns, with 10 of those coming his junior season.

Before coming to Florida, Caldwell was a high school sports star for Tampa Jefferson where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball.

Following his career at Florida, Caldwell was selected in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. The pass catcher played for 4 different teams during his professional career — Chargers (2002-05), Patriots (2006), Redskins (2007) and Rams (2008).

In 6-career active NFL seasons, Caldwell caught 152 passes for 1,851 yards and 11 touchdowns.
