Report: Caleb Brantley's attorney continues to claim innocence, alleged victim claims falsified report
Often times, timing is everything in life. If former Florida standout defensive lineman Caleb Brantley wasn’t aware of that before, he may soon be getting a hard lesson on that fact. Taking into account the fact we are just days away from the beginning of the 2017 NFL Draft, being involved in a situation as serious as domestic violence very well could scare off potential NFL teams.
If you missed the news over the weekend, Brantley is being charged with misdemeanor battery following his involvement with a physical confrontation involving a woman. The incident was reportedly witnessed by several people not involved in the incident.
While it’s still unclear what exactly happened, according to a report from Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times, both attorneys in this case aren’t willing to concede to the other’s story. Per the report, Brantley’s attorney continues to claim his client is the victim in this case, while the attorney for the woman involved in this case alleges she was the victim while also claiming the Gainesville police falsified the original report — which claimed the woman struck Brantley and not the other way around.
Considering the NFL’s increased awareness regarding the seriousness of domestic violence and the poor image the league has earned for allowing players to continue to play despite these issues in the past, Brantley, once considered an elite NFL defensive lineman prospect, may not hear his name called in the upcoming draft without some resolution in this case.
