Though it appears Florida coach Jim McElwain won’t be coaching the Gators next week, the details of his departure from the school are still being worked out.

According to an ESPN.com report, one of the big sticking points is McElwain’s $12.76 million buyout, which is obviously a hefty sum of money even for a Power 5 program like Florida.

The report states that Florida administrators are currently meeting with McElwain and have asked him to accept a smaller buyout so the school can move on.

Why McElwain would accept a lesser buyout is anyone’s guess, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few hours.

One thing does seem clear, though. At this point, it would be fairly ridiculous if McElwain somehow coached the Gators against Mizzou in Columbia next weekend.
