Report: Former Florida CB Chris Steele heading to USC instead of Oregon
Former Florida enrollee Chris Steele was a highly touted member of the Gators’ 2019 recruiting class. However, following spring practices, he decided to transfer.
Originally deciding to head west to Oregon, it seems Steele has had a change of heart and will enroll at another Pac-12 program instead.
Per a report from OregonLive.com, Steele will stay closer to his California home and will reportedly enroll at USC this fall:
Amid recruiting rumblings stemming from a Trojan Insider report that the 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback, out of St. John Bosco High School (Bellflower, California), took a visit to USC on Monday, a source close to Steele’s recruitment clarified his status.
“He is going to USC,” the source said.
Rumors have been circulating about Steele since that Trojan Insider report, but this seems as close to a confirmation as we have at this point.
It’s been a long spring for the one-time Gator defensive back, and we’ll see if he does indeed end up at USC this fall.
Things might be looking better for USC in a couple of years, first Bru McCoy now Chris Steele. Both players were considered whiffs on the part of USC’s recruiting and maybe USC ends up getting them both after they sit out a season.
Steele WILL BE GRANTED A WAIVER and eligible to play in 2019.
If a kid ever deserved a waiver, Steele is that kid.
Immediate eligibility waivers are getting out of hand. You can Google stories where a kid’s parent is very ill in a hospital and he has to sit out a year, but Justin Fields get one for “reasons” that aren’t racist, dangerous, or anything in between.
Agree. Homesickness should be taken more seriously.
Dawgs you really need to get a job. #biboveralls
I think in the end the culture shock from Cali to the south was too much for both McCoy and Steele
That… and it was a little to early for him to stop breast feeding. Soft kid.
Setting up nicely for Urban to take over there next year.
“I’d think we did a poor job recruiting if guys were coming in and then immediately walking out the door because it was something different than what they thought it would be and we lied to them during recruiting, or we sold them on a dream that wasn’t true,”
Earth to dummy, this article is more proof that Steele wanted to go play close to home and the Jones fiasco was a convenient excuse to do so and get a waiver. Why are Georgia fans so dense?
HA! He wanted out of Gainesville so bad, he transferred twice! If only UGA knew how to recruit….
If only UGA had a ring every 40 years—oh wait…..Justin and Jacob knew to get out of that hole fast. Why are you so concerned over the GATORS is a better question?
Why commit to UF in the first place if he wanted to play closer to home?
It’s called thinking you want to be somewhere, then getting all the way across the country and realizing how far away from home you are and getting homesick. It happens all the time, it’s not some new and unusual idea.
Georgie Bulldog you should know you sold Justin and Jacob on that Hole of Athens and they got out fast. Anyone could have told them. Georgie’s been lying for years to their recruits telling them they can get a ring.#kirbying
My favorite game since the offseason began has been to see how fast an SDS article for the Gators will get its first UGA comment. Quite entertaining so far. In defense of UGA nation, though, it’s typically the same three people in different order.
I’m usually the first person to be critical of my team when it’s due, but this is looking more and more like a kid who went away from home and decided he wanted to go back. That’s not to say that his situation wasn’t handled the best way; Mullen and crew should have taken more direct actions in light of the allegations. But at the end of the day, it was the allure of home that was the push, and the situation fed into that.
The same three morons that comprise the triumvirate of douchiness. #2 already chimed in lets see how long it takes for #1 and 3 to post.
On a dreary day at the I-75 Rest Area on the way to Orlando/Tampa/Miami, in the early spring of 2019

Steele – Coach, thanks for meeting with me
Dancing Mullet – Sure .. uh what’s your name .. say Metal, have you seen my latest dance? I put it together as part of my audition for the movie Rocketman; can’t believe those jerks passed on me, said my posture wasn’t “camera friendly”
Steele – Sir, my name Steele
Dancing
Mullet – gotcha, say can you bust a move?
Steele – uh .. anyway Coach I need to talk to you about Jones. Coach … don’t how to say this any other way but … Sir, Jones is a major problem and I’ve got to get out of that dorm!
Dancing Mullet – Jones, who is that Iron?
Steele – Coach, my name is Steele, anyway, Jones is your 4-Star QB recruit, he early enrolled like me. Sir, I think Jones may have crossed the line in our dorm. I need for you to get me that dorm room ASAP. Sir, I didn’t come to college to be exposed criminal behavior, I just want to play football and get an education .
Dancing Mullet – Jones, oh yeah, I remember him, I haven’t started my whispering program with him yet. What are you talking about Ferrous, you saying Jones can’t shake it, he stiff, he got no rhythm? Say tin, did you see my moves on Sports Center last fall? Come on, admit it, I got it don’t I.
Steele – Seriously coach, my name is STEELE not iron, not metal, not tin, it is STEELE. I was the top rank recruit in your 2019 singing class, you and your wife visited me at my home, you meet my mother and father. Come coach focus, it is STEELE. But all that is not why I am here Coach … Coach, I think Jones may have raped a girl in our dorm. Jones thought I was asleep Coach. Coach, it’s tearing me up inside, nobody should be treated like that girl was treated. Coach, I didn’t want to get in trouble for something I wasn’t involved in and I don’t want my teammates to hate me.
Dancing Mullet – okay Steele, I’m hearing you now. You are telling me that Jones is a noisy eater, late at night. He is always eating grapes and crepes and that is causing you to lose sleep. Here is what you do. Go see the equipment guy, whatever his name is, and tell him to get you need a boom box, you know, 80’s style, really big, I had one when I was breaking. Tell him to also get you a big pair of ear phones. You put that boom box between your bed and Jones’ bed. Then, when Jones want to eat grapes and crepes , you know what I mean, you just put on those earphones, crank up the volume and dream about being on Dancing with the Stars. I’ll get you a new dorm when I can, definitely before Christmas 2021.
Dancing Mullet – Steele, another thing, one of my dancing partners, an alum, he is really high up in the Florida Courts and legal system. He has our back. No matter how many grapes and crepes Jones eats, this guy will take care of it for us. Say, you think you might want to go dancing with him and I?
Dude I didn’t get past the first line in your diatribe. Guess you think you are funny and clever with these little stories you are writing lately. Guess again fool. The only ones who will read all your crap and congratulate you are your fellow Georgia morons. Go ahead and keep it up, nothing like dummies talking to each other and laughing at their stupidity.
Georgia trolls taking time to post made up stories on every single article on the Florida page. Is there anyone employed in stinking Georgia?
Way too much time on his hands that’s for sure.
It’s like when we were young and you saw that mentally disabled kid, and you tried not to look at them. Then you catch yourself staring because they look strange to everyone else. Yep, that’s the reaction to those pathetic trolls
You sound like you were an a$$ as a kid. I didn’t treat disabled people differently but I was raised to respect others. Try it some time.
Trashcan the only ones disrespecting others here are the legion of Georgia trolls and you, so go fly a kite in traffic
I tell ya, Urb out here selling salt to slugs. His recruiting for USC is already paying dividends. USC in the playoffs 2021
All jokes aside. The more that happens with Steele, the more it seems less to do with Jalen Jones and more to do with being homesick.
As I always thought, the narrative of Florida losing control was overblown. Good luck to him, Urb’s a good coach. Funny, he won’t find any moral upgrade playing for Meyer instead of Mullen.
More details have surfaced on this. Apparently USC was the first school Chris and his dad reached out to, but the scholarship roster was full. They wanted to get in place quickly in order to file a waiver with the NCAA for eligibility this season, and moved on to Oregon. USC, however, could NOT let this kid get away again, and Helton maneuvered a scholarship opening. At least, that’s what I’m hearing and reading.
