Former Florida wide receiver, assistant coach Aubrey Hill passes
There’s some sad news to pass along to the Florida football family this Sunday. Former Gator wide receiver and assistant coach Aubrey Hill has passed away at the age of 48.
Hill played for Steve Spurrier from 1991-94, a Gators run that included three SEC Championships (1991; 1993-94). In his UF career, Hill caught 86 passes including 18 touchdowns.
As a coach, Hill had two stops at Florida. He was a graduate assistant under Spurrier from 1996-98 and returned as Will Muschamp’s wide receivers coach in 2011 and ’12. Hill’s other college coaching stops included Elon College, Pittsburgh, Duke and Miami. From 2013-16 he was head coach at Miami Carol City High School, leading the program to a state championship in his final season.
Hill was on Butch Davis’ Florida International (FIU) staff as wide receivers coach, a position he accepted in March of 2017.
“One of the greatest men I’ve ever been around,” Davis told Brett McMurphy. “Classy, loved by his players, always had a smile, was upbeat & positive. He made huge impact on so many young men.”
McMurphy reports Hill was battling cancer.
