Florida Gators defensive coordinator and interim head coach DJ Durkin’s future with the Gators is still uncertain, but it hasn’t deterred other schools from reaching out.

According to Gigem247.com, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has reached out to Durkin about the Aggies’ defensive coordinator position. Sumlin fired Mark Snyder shortly after the regular season after Texas AM finished the year with the SEC’s worst defense in regard to points and yards allowed.

It was also reported by Inside Carolina that UNC head coach Larry Fedora has also met with Durkin regarding its opening at defensive coordinator.

Per the report:

Tar Heel head coach Larry Fedora met with Durkin on Sunday, sources confirmed, and the UNC administration has granted Fedora the ability to offer a competitive financial package.

Durkin has been at Florida since 2010 as the Gators’ linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. He took over as defensive coordinator in 2013 when Dan Quinn left for the NFL.

Shortly after new head coach Jim McElwain was hired, FootballScoop.com reported that Durkin, along with defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, would be the two assistants that McElwain kept on through an agreement with athletic director Jeremy Foley.

McElwain has yet to make any official announcements regarding his coaching staff as he used his first week as Florida’s head coach to recruit before the dead period began.
