Florida just lost its only commitment for the 2023 recruiting cycle.

That’s because Shawn Russ of Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, Fla., just announced his decision to back off his commitment to the Gators. Russ committed to Florida back in April of 2020.

“I would like to let everyone know and would like everyone to be aware of me Decommitting from the Gators. I would like to thank Coach Rat, Coach Grantham and Coach Mullen for da time we shared and I would definitely still be in contact with them,” Russ shared.

Following his public decommitment from Florida, Russ noted that the Gators remain in his top three schools at this time.

Considering he’s a 2023 prospect, he has plenty of time to rejoin Florida’s program before he even has the opportunity to sign with a college program.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Fort Myers native is rated as a four-star recruit and the nation’s No. 2 cornerback prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle by 247Sports. Russ also holds scholarship offers from Florida State and Miami.
