Former Florida TE Jordan Reed will open Washington Redskins training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. That’s particularly worrisome for the Redskins, because as Reed goes, so goes the Washington offense.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell shared some eye-opening stats on Twitter. While many NFL fans are well-aware of Reed’s production as a pass-catcher, it’s just not about his receptions. For the Redskins, simply having Reed on the field plays a major factor in the success of Washington’s passing game. When Reed is on the field, Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has a much higher passer rating, more touchdowns and fewer interceptions.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Reed is being sidelined because of a sprain to his big toe. If Reed recovers, he can return to camp any time. However, if he’s on the PUP list at the start of the season, he could be looking at missing the first six weeks.
